Microsoft sets a new record, announces 14 Security Bulletins for Patch Tuesday

Last week, Microsoft gave us MS10-046, a security bulletin addressing the 0-day vulnerability in the Windows Shell that (1) affected every supported version of Windows, and (2) was being increasingly exploited by the bad guys to perform various nefarious actions on victim PCs worldwide.  Not great, but not too bad a month, right?

Not so fast, buckaroo.  It isn’t the second Tuesday, yet.  And it would appear that Microsoft had a bumper crop this month, as they announced that they intend to release an additional 14 Security Bulletins next Tuesday. In case you aren’t counting, that will make 15 bulletins for the month of August.  So much for “those lazy, hazy, crazy days” of summer, eh?

Out of the 14 bulletins, 8 of them are rated CRITICAL, while 6 of them are slightly less so, and are rated IMPORTANT.  Among the products affected: Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Silverlight, Microsoft Office, and of course everybody’s favorite browser, Microsoft Internet Exploder Explorer.

So, gentle reader, better have your PC ready, as it looks to be a busy Reboot Wednesday. TTFN!
