Apple has released iOS 4.0.2 for the iPhone and iPod Touch. This update, available via iTunes, addresses the vulnerabilities in FreeType which could allow for execution of arbitrary code; and a privilege escalation vulnerability which could allow a user to gain system privileges. Combined, these vulnerabilities would allow the user (or an attacker) to “jailbreak” the iPhone. This capability was discovered when a website was activated to allow users to “jailbreak” their own iPhones, and was the subject of much discussion in the tech and security media, including this article by Brian Krebs.
If you have an iPhone or iPod touch, it is time to Get Thee To The Patchery.
